What is ice hockey?
Ice hockey is a game between two teams who wear skates and compete on an ice rink. Each team usually has six players. The object is to propel the puck past a goal line and into a net guarded by a goaltender. Ice hockey is popular for its speed and frequent physical contact.
Where is ice hockey most popular?
Ice hockey is immensely popular in Canada, where it is the national winter sport and arguably the country’s most popular game. Hockey is also popular in the United States and in European countries such as Russia, Sweden, and Finland. More than a million registered athletes play regularly in leagues worldwide.
Where did ice hockey originate?
Research suggests that ice hockey is derived from a game played in Nova Scotia by the Mi’kmaq people. It included the use of a “hurley” (stick) and a square wooden block. It was probably fundamentally this game that spread throughout Canada via Scottish and Irish immigrants and the British army and evolved into an informal ice game later known as shinny or shinty.

आईस हॉकी असोसिएशन ऑफ महाराष्ट्र, मुंबई ही अधिकृत आईस हॉकी असोसिएशन ऑफ इंडियाचे एकमेव , संलग्न व धर्मादाय आयुक्तांकडे 2013 पासून नोंदणीकृत राज्य संघटना आहे.
आईस हॉकी असोसिएशन ऑफ महाराष्ट्र म्हणजे (IHAM) होय. आय एच ए एम ही महाराष्ट्र मध्ये आईस हॉकी व इनलाइन हॉकी चा प्रसार व प्रचार करणे, तसेच खेळांचे कॅम्प प्रशिक्षण शिबिर चॅम्पियनशिप घेणे तसेच खेळाडूंना राज्य राष्ट्रीय आंतरराष्ट्रीय दर्जाचे प्रशिक्षण देऊन घडविणे इत्यादी कामे करते.. महाराष्ट्र मधील आईस हॉकी या खेळाच्या जिल्हा संघटनांची शिखर संघटना म्हणून काम करते त्या जिल्हा संघटनांमध्ये आई हॉकी चा प्रचार प्रसार करणे तसेच जिल्हा संघटना खेळाडूंना खेळाविषयी सहकार्य करणे तसेच जिल्हा संघटना मार्गदर्शन करणे इत्यादी कामे शिखर संघटना म्हणून करत असते. आईस हॉकी या खेळाचे मैदानी बांधण्याकरिता तसेच खेळाडूंना शासनाच्या सोयी सुविधा पुरविण्याकरिता व विविध लीग, चॅम्पियनशिप घेण्याकरता शासन च्या व खेळाडू संघटक यांच्या मध्यस्ताचा दुवा म्हणून IHAM काम पाहते.
